Some wedding dates are simply busier than others. We see it every year.
On June 1, 2024, Sam Hill had 43 different bands performing on the same night, from Charleston courtyards to DC ballrooms to Blue Ridge barns. It was the busiest day in our history. When we looked at several years of booking data, a clear pattern emerged. Certain Saturdays fill up much earlier than the rest.

Our ten busiest nights over the last 3 years, by the number of simultaneous events.
There’s a pattern here.
Every one of these dates falls on a Saturday. Six of the ten are in October. Across the last three years, the second and third Saturdays of October have averaged 39 to 40 simultaneous events. The first Saturdays in May and June aren’t far behind at 38.
For a little perspective, our current roster includes 44 bands. On the busiest Saturdays of the year, more than 40 of them are performing at the same time. Those dates leave very little availability, which is why they tend to book so far in advance.
The busiest dates are getting even busier
Demand has become more concentrated over the past few years.
The share of each year’s events packed into the ten busiest dates climbed from 22% in 2023 to 24% in 2024 and 26% in 2025. More than one out of every four events now takes place on just ten dates each year.
We also see 14 to 16 Saturdays each year with more than 30 simultaneous events. During wedding season, that’s about one high-demand Saturday every month.
One date surprised us.
December 14, 2024 had 38 events, tying for the ninth-busiest night in our history. Winter weddings often feel like they’ll be easier to book, but the second Saturday in December overlaps with holiday party season. Corporate events draw from the same pool of bands, so availability gets tight much earlier than many couples expect.
The 2027 watch list
Based on three years of booking patterns, these are the Saturdays we’d expect to fill up first in 2027.
If your wedding falls on one of these dates, it’s a good idea to start your search earlier than you otherwise might. Across all weddings in our data, the median couple books about 10 months ahead. On these especially busy Saturdays, couples who have a particular band in mind often start the conversation much earlier.
If your date is already set
That’s okay. There are still plenty of ways to give yourself good options.
- Reach out about entertainment early. On the busiest weekends, band availability becomes limited before many other vendors.
- Keep a few favorites on your list. If you love several bands, you’ll have a better chance of finding one that’s available for your date.
- Think about Friday if it works for your plans. The Friday before many of these busy Saturdays often has much more availability and, in many markets, lower prices.

Methodology: Based on 5,358 events booked through Sam Hill Entertainment with event dates from 2023 through 2026, including weddings, corporate events, and private parties, because every event type draws from the same roster of bands. “Distinct bands” counts unique artists performing on a given date. 2027 projections are based on average Saturday demand by calendar slot, 2023–2025.
