Based on 165+ events booked through Sam Hill, 2023–2026.

Starting Range

Your entry point to a full live band.

$5,000–$7,000

Top of Market

Top-of-market productions.

$11,000–$14,500+

Couples in Asheville and the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau typically spend about $8,000 on their wedding band, and a third spend $10,000 or more. There is not much of an off-season discount here, since medians hold firm or run higher outside the traditional peak. The wedding calendar stays busy from April through June and again in September, and bands with 6 to 8 pieces are the most popular fit for the area's lodge and farm venues.

A note on pricing: These ranges reflect Sam Hill’s all-inclusive pricing, which covers band travel and lodging, sound, stage lighting, instruments and amps, emcee services, recorded music during breaks, up to one special request or first-dance song for the band to learn, and up to four hours of performance time. Bands are also happy to play additional special requests from their existing repertoire. Gratuity is optional and at the client’s discretion. Many events also include optional add-ons, so final pricing can vary based on the date, location, and specific needs of the event.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding band cost in Asheville?

Most couples in Asheville spend between $7,000 and $11,000 on their wedding band. The median across 137 weddings we've booked in the area since 2023 is about $8,000. Smaller bands on off-peak dates start around $5,000, while larger bands on peak-season Saturdays typically run $11,000 to $14,500+. The biggest factors that affect price are band size, your wedding date, and the time of year.

What are the best wedding venues for live bands in Asheville?

After working at venues across the area, we have gotten to know many of the spaces that are especially well suited for live music. Old Edwards Inn & Spa - The Farm, Omni Grove Park Inn, Greystone Inn, and Mountaintop Golf & Lake Club are among the places where our bands perform most often in Asheville. The best venues usually have enough room for the band, a dance floor that keeps guests close to the music, and an experienced team that can make load-in and sound setup go smoothly. We've played 60+ venues across the area, so we are happy to share what we have learned about what works where.

How far in advance should I book a band for an Asheville wedding?

Most couples in Asheville book their wedding band 7 to 12 months before the wedding, with a median of about 10 months. About a third reserve their band a full year or more in advance. If you are planning a peak-season Saturday (April–June and September), it is worth starting toward the earlier end of that range. The most-requested bands tend to book those dates first.

Should I hire a band or a DJ for my wedding?

There’s no right answer. It depends on the kind of reception you want to create.

A live band brings the energy, personality, and interaction that only live musicians can provide. Great bands read the room, adjust in real time, and create moments that guests remember long after the wedding is over.

A DJ offers a different experience, with access to virtually any recorded song and a more streamlined setup.

If creating a packed dance floor and an unforgettable party is one of your top priorities, a live band is hard to beat. If you’re not sure which direction is right for your wedding, we’re happy to talk through your vision and help you decide whether a live band is the best fit.

What size band do I need for my wedding?

Most wedding bands range from six to twelve musicians, and the right size depends on your venue, budget, and the experience you want to create.

Smaller bands are often a great fit for intimate weddings or venues with limited space. Larger bands typically offer a bigger sound, more vocalists, additional instrumentation, and a higher-energy stage presence.

There’s no magic number. During the booking process, we’ll help you find a band that fits your guest count, venue, and budget while delivering the kind of atmosphere you’re looking for.
