How I think about live music

Every wedding has a story, and the right band doesn't just play the soundtrack — they help write it. My job is making sure every couple gets the performance that turns their reception into the night everyone talks about for years.

Hank Wells is the founder and CEO of Sam Hill Entertainment, the Mid-Atlantic's premier wedding band booking agency. Since launching the company in 2015, Hank has built a curated roster of over 30 bands and helped more than 3,600 couples find the perfect live music for their celebrations.

A lifelong musician, Hank played in cover bands throughout college and spent the early years of his career in artist management before recognizing a gap in the wedding entertainment market: couples deserved a better, more transparent way to find and book live bands. Sam Hill Entertainment was born from that insight.

Hank takes a data-driven approach to the wedding music industry. He personally oversees the company's annual analysis of song request data — including the flagship Wedding Song Trends report, which analyzes over 30,000 song requests — and uses these insights to help bands deliver setlists that keep dance floors packed.

When he's not matching couples with bands, Hank can be found at UVA football games, experimenting with his smoker in the backyard, or sitting in with one of his bands at a weekend showcase. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife and two kids.
