Biography: TimbaSon
The newest and most controversial music out of Cuba, Timba is like salsa on steroids. TIMBASON covers both traditional and new sounds coming out of Cuba. It's Cuban “folk,” (meaning the Buena Vista Social Club sound that stormed music charts in the late '90s). It's the newer timba that people on the island listen to and dance to today. It’s sound is largely based on high trumpets, more electrified bass and tight choruses. TIMBASON incorporates influences from Brazilian music, R&B, hip-hop and salsa.
Son is a style of popular dance music that originated in the Oriente province of Cuba. It is the foundation of modern salsa. There are several hybrids of Son, including Son-montuno, Afro-son and Guajira-son. TIMBASON takes its name from son, the most influential form of Latin music in the late 1800s, and timba, the Cuban version of America's soul and funk explosion in the '70s. TIMBASON can add cha-cha, salsa, boleros, and even a little rap and hip-hop to their musical mishmash.
