Biography: Southwater
Southwater, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, is Dave Horgan (guitar/vocals), Patrick Flynn (upright bass/vocals), Dave Krovetz (banjo), and Mike Ioakimedes (mandolin/vocals). Beyond our core unit, Southwater has had the pleasure of playing with many guest musicians as well, including some of Central Virginia's finest - Gabe Robey of The Harwell Grice Band, Nick Reeb of King Wilkie, Camilla Ammirati of Millie and the Moonshine Boys and Mary Simpson of Whiskey Rebellion.
Our individual musical backgrounds vary, encompassing a love for bluegrass, rock, country, jazz, blues, classical, celtic, and gospel traditions. Not surprisingly, Southwater's music stands at the crossroads of the old and the new, the traditional and the progressive. A typical Southwater set includes a range of traditional instrumental tunes, bluegrass standards, obscure covers, and original compositions.
But consistent within our performance is harmony singing, improvisation, and a "ragged but right" approach that doesn't take itself too seriously. Southwater is available for wedding receptions, graduation parties, or any other special event.
