Biography: Peter Richardson

Peter Richardson began his formal study of the guitar at the Duke Ellington School in Washington D.C. Since graduating in 1988, he has studied a wide variety of musical styles with many accomplished musicians including : Joe Pass, Paul Bollenback, Marija Temo, and Charlie Byrd. His studies have taken him all over the U.S. as well as to Brazil. Peter has performed with several jazz, latin, and rock ensembles throughout the country. He has been a music instructor for over 20 years and currently resides in Charlottesville Virginia.
In 2000 he founded the Richardson Guitar Studio, which has become a successful music school in Charlottesville with 10 instructors and 100 students. In 2002, Peter collaborated with clarinetist Dave Kannensohn and recorded the independently released album Best Friends. The two formed the Richardson/Kannensohn duo and released a second CD in 2005 called Saturday Night at Hamiltons' - a musical exhibition of their weekend gig that's been delighting downtown Charlottesville for over 8 years and counting...
In 2000, Peter also formed the Alegria Latin Combo - a dynamic ensemble that interprets the music of Cuba, Spain, and Brazil and features several of the best latin musicians on the east coast. They maintain a rigorous performance schedule throughout the U.S. and have a versatile latin repertoire that can be arranged for duo, trio, quartet, quintet, and sextet. Peter’s most recent project is Toma Que Toma - a flamenco troupe of guitarists, dancers, singers, and percussionists performing traditional and modern dances of Spain. This exciting new group focuses on engaging their audience to participate in the festive celebration of authentic flamenco rhythms.
