Biography: New Wave Nation
>>VIEW SONGLIST
The concept was easy. Put together a band that is based on entertainment - a show! Not four guys playing their instruments and staring at their feet, but a real show - something that had been seriously missing from music when we started this band. You shouldn’t have to pay upwards of $100.00 a ticket to see a great band put on a show at the local “enormo-dome." Do it at a level that everyone can afford! That everyone can enjoy! You can have Intelligent lighting, you can have a laser show, you can have a multi-media stage show without having to charge hundreds of dollars to people. So that’s what we did!
THE MUSIC: The show was one thing, but what about the music? The music had to fit the show. Something with high energy that hadn’t been really done before.
Enter the 1980s! This was one of the most exciting times for music in the past 100 years (with maybe the exception of maybe the Beatles in the 1960s). Technology began to play a major role in the development of new artists. The music video became a viable new entity to be reckoned with and there was a flood of new artists from all over the world that was now being exposed to audiences internationally via MTV. Never before had the genre lines been crossed quite so much; pop, rock, new wave, punk, metal, dance, R&B were now in a virtual melting pot of musical styles... and we loved it!!
THE LOOK: Now there was the music and the show, but what about the look? The idea of New Wave Nation is that we are all part of something that is bigger than any single person. & The members of the band are the same as the members of our audience. Without you, there is no "us" and vise/versa. Our decision to dress in a "uniform" style is based on that theory. We are one!! Besides, the look of bands wearing the same clothes they wore when they carried their equipment in or went to the Mall in, was getting tired and the "I'm just being me" look was very old. People want to be visually entertained as well.
THE SOUND: It would be very easy to play the music we play EXACTLY as it was recorded. However, a lot of that music doesn't transfer over well from the "recorded" version to a live situation. Especially when your doing a large variety of music, from different artist, back to back. Very early on, we realized that we had to take each song and make it our own. Change arrangements, tempo's, song key's, etc. to fit into the context of what we were doing visually. By doing so, we 've made a very unique sound that compliments the original song, but has more of an edge to it.
