Biography: Harwell Grice Band
>>VIEW SONGLIST
The Harwell Grice Band has been entertaining audiences throughout Virginia nonstop, since late 2003. Their original bluegrass and Americana mixed with a large repertoire of traditionals and even a few popular covers result in a very entertaining show.
The Harwell Grice Band was formed when four friends; Josh Grice, Matt Hubbard, Gabe Robey and Spencer Young got together back in college and started experimenting with bluegrass music. After playing a few times they decided to start writing and performing their own material around the Roanoke and New River Valley area. After nearly eight years of playing for friends, bars, parties, weddings, and festivals, the Harwell Grice Band has morphed into a talented and versatile group of musicians, sharing the stage with the likes of Larry Keel, Seldom Scene, Tony Rice, and Blue Highway, to name a few. Primary songwriter and lead singer, Josh Grice, brings a thrilling stage presence and country styled vocal that harkens back to a previous generation. Lead guitarist, Gabe Robey, also sings lead and harmony vocals and makes major contributions to the band’s original songwriting. Members Matthew Hubbard (mandolin) and Andrew Kingery (doghouse bass) hold down the rock solid rhythm section of the band and also contribute with original material. Stewart Werner is a banjo-extraordinaire and seasoned bluegrass musician adding bass vocals and songwriting ability.
The band's musical arrangements and two and three-part harmonies are some of the best in the business. Their lyrics are both meaningful and honest and reflect a special non conformity while staying true to the traditions and themes of Appalachian music. With the release of their debut album "No Place to Call My Home," and newly released “A Millon Miles,” the Harwell Grice Band is surely on its way to bigger things.
