Biography: Gonzo's Nose

Formed in the summer of 1996 by four musicians from the College of William and Mary, GONZO'S NOSE has carved a niche for themselves in the D.C. music scene by combining solid musicianship with a repertoire of covers from 80s and 90s. Well, that's what our press pack says, because we were trying to be all professional and crap. As everyone knows, web pages are no place for that stuff, so let's just say we're Cold Kickin' it Live as DC's Dopest Party Band and leave it at that.

For those of you not familiar with us, GONZO'S NOSE is a dedicated party band playing at clubs and bars throughout Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. Our home is inside the D.C. Beltway, but we've played as far away as Radford, Williamsburg, and Ocean City. We all have real jobs (except for Steve -- details in his section) and we have (almost) no pretension, so although we are working on some originals, we're actually quite content to be playing nothing but covers. And judging by the response we've gotten, people are more than happy to listen.

GONZO'S NOSE has a monster set list (over 100 songs, which would be something like six hours of music, if we were ever inclined to play it straight through!), and we pick high energy songs that people can dance to, spanning three decades and a mess of different musical styles. If you've ever been to a GONZO'S NOSE show, you've seen people climbing up on tables for the whole range, from K. C. and the Sunshine Band's "Get Down Tonight," to Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl," to a kick-ass guitar-driven arrangement of Seal's "Crazy," to an earbleed-inducing version of "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains. We also continually add new music to our set (up to ten songs each month), often based on our fans' requests, which has led to the recent inclusion of songs like Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life," "Don't Change" by INXS, and Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" (click on "Set List" to see the whole list, topped by the latest additions!). Basically, if it's cheesy '80s or '90s alternative, we'll give it a try. Even more basically, if it's played on DC101, we've probably done it at some point. In fact, it's getting difficult for us to listen to the radio these days because of what we call "The Gonzo Effect," which is when we flip through just about every pop music station, only to find that they're all playing songs we've played one too many times! If you've got a suggestion or a request, let us know!
