For those of you who enjoy the music of GritCityGrass, the Charlottesville, Va based bluegrass band, it will be a thrill to learn of 2grass, which consists of two members of GCG. Usually consisting of Fred Anderson and Larry White, these multi talented gentlemen will play at your reunion, wedding, or office party, delivering a perfect blend of old time hard driving bluegrass and mellow favorites.
With a repertoire of over a hundred songs, including bluegrass tunes from way back to those done in recent years to some written by members of GritCityGrass, there is something for everyone. The idea for 2grass came from the realization that not everyone wants a full band at their function, and sometimes budgets do not allow for one.
Fred grew up in the mountains of Crozet, Virginia. He began playing the guitar at the age of 14. Throughout high school, Fred learned material from Bob Dylan, the All man Brothers, and the Grateful Dead, among others. He played in several bands during this time, usually playing rhythm guitar. It was not until he was a sophomore at Wesleyan University in Connecticut that Fred became interested in Bluegrass. As it seemed that everybody played guitar, he decided to pick up the mandolin. Fred's first Bluegrass band was called Middle town. They focused on bringing the sounds of the Appalachians to the Northeast. Back in Virginia after graduating, he played in Charlottesville with several Bluegrass bands before playing mandolin and do bro with the Back roads Bluegrass Band. He now performs regularly with 2Grass and Grit City Grass.
Larry is a bluegrass banjo player and tenor vocalist who began his bluegrass music career in the Pacific Northwest. He has played in quite a few bands over the years with many talented folks including: Peter Schwimmer, Michael Brooks, Lou Martin, John Cadley, Tom Hosmer, John Rossbach, Mark Simons, Lex Browning, James Mason, Stacy Phillips, Jeff Miller, Rick Shubb, Markie Sanders, Greg Clarke, Barbara Lamb and has appeared on theNBC Today Show with Portland's "Dr. Corn's Bluegrass Remedy." He is currently performing with Grit City Grass Band.
